DENTAL ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE
Educational Objective
The Educational Objective of the Southwest Health Career Institute Dental Assisting Program is to provide quality dental auxiliary education in a hands-on environment that will prepare the student for an entry level position as a Dental Assistant in a dental office. Our goal is to partner with the student and the dental community in developing ongoing communications towards productive and rewarding careers. Professional Duties
A Dental Assistant provides essential and vital auxiliary services for the dentist at chairside, in the business office, and in the office laboratory. The educationally qualified assistant is a highly competent individual possessing valuable skills and knowledge in patient care. Although the majority of the dental auxiliarys responsibilities center on assisting the doctor during dental procedures, she/he may perform a variety of interesting and challenging tasks in all areas of a general or specialty practice. A Dental Assistant has very definite obligations and responsibilities to the dentist, the patient, and to the dental profession. The demand for qualified Dental Assistants exceeds the supply, and this employment trend is predicted to remain high for years to come. SWHCI educates students who become valuable members of the dental team. Upon graduation, students receive a Certificate of Completion conferred by Southwest Health Career Institute. Graduate Dental Assistants may become employed immediately and are eligible to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) examination for Radiology Certification. Career Opportunities
Settings that offer career opportunities for dental assistants include: private dental practices, community dental health clinics, public schools, clinical and basic science research laboratories, state and federal health facilities, and management positions.
